Firefighters rescue 3 during Westchester house fire

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Firefighters have rescued three people who became trapped on the roof of their burning Westchester County home.

Crews in New Rochelle responded to an emergency call around 7 p.m. Thursday from neighbors to find three people trapped on the home's porch roof. Firefighters were able to get the woman and two children down safely.

Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio says firefighters from Yonkers, Pelham Manor and Greenville were called in to help extinguish the blaze. He says firefighters were able to contain the fire even as wind blew flames toward a neighboring house.

The fire was put out around 10 p.m. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
