NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say they've arrested five people involved with a heroin and fentanyl ring that was selling drugs at a Staten Island school and other locations in the borough.
Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon and NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill announced the bust Tuesday night during a meeting at a Staten Island community center.
Officials say police seized 400 glassines of heroin and $11,000 in cash during the bust, which stemmed from the overdose death of a 25-year-old pregnant woman in Staten Island last year. The woman's 28-year-old fiance was among the five suspects charged.
Also charged was a 25-year-old teaching assistant at Dreyfus Intermediate School who's accused of selling fentanyl on school grounds.
Police say the drugs were brought in from Edison Township, New Jersey by a 28-year-old woman.
