Rasmus Ristolainen scores in OT, Sabres beat Islanders 3-2
Associated Press
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Rasmus Ristolainen has just two goals this season. Both have been game-winners for the Buffalo Sabres.
The defenseman scored 42 seconds into overtime to give the Sabres a 3-2 comeback victory over the New York Islanders on Friday night.
"I love to play overtime," said Ristolainen, who also scored in the extra period in Buffalo's 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Dec. 6.
Johan Larsson and Matt Moulson scored in regulation, and Ristolainen had his team-leading 19th assist to help the Sabres win their second straight game. Robin Lehner made 33 saves.
"We battled at the end and we found a way to win," Ristolainen said. "We never give up and we're having fun and we trust each other."
Ryan Strome and Alan Quine scored for New York, and Jean-Francois Berube made 34 saves in his first start of the season.
The Islanders have lost four in a row. They have had a lead or been tied entering the third period of each game.
"We play a good 40 minutes and the third period we kind of seem flat," Strome said. "It's kind of been the downfall of our team this year, our third periods and finding ways to win."
Ristolainen scored the winner on an odd-man rush, receiving a pass from Kyle Okposo in the slot and sending a wrist shot over Berube's glove.
Ristolainen is the fourth Sabres' defenseman to score two overtime winners in his career.
"It's good to get points from guys back there, and he's got a lot of poise," Okposo said. "He makes plays and he creates offense, and you need that. He's our No. 1 D-man for a reason."
Okposo, the Buffalo points leader, was playing against his former team for the first time.
"It was strange, to be honest with you," Okposo said. "So many times you play with those guys. I know exactly what they're going to do. It was an odd game, an odd feeling."
Moulson tied it at 2 for Buffalo on a power play 3:19 into the third period. Berube could not control the rebound from Evander Kane's long shot, and Moulson's backhand bounced in off the skate of Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey.
"That's kind of how things have been going for us lately," Price said. "It's frustrating. We're playing well, can't seem to get the bounces in the third and overtime."
Islanders coach Jack Capuano was pleased with his team's effort on the second night of a back-to-back, but said taking two penalties in the third period killed New York's momentum.
"It's frustrating to me that the guys worked this hard and they can't get the win," Capuano said. "I was just hoping we could stay disciplined in the third period, and we didn't."
The Islanders showed little fatigue from playing in Chicago on Thursday night, generating several early scoring chances against a Sabres team that was off for two days.
New York had a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal in the first period and took a 1-0 on Strome's straightaway wrist shot with 6:52 remaining.
The Sabres showed more urgency in the second and tied it 2:32 into the period when Larsson re-directed Rasmus Ristolainen's shot from the point past Berube.
Quine scored on a power play to put the Islanders back in front 2-1 at 6:39 of the second period. Shane Prince slid a pass across the crease to Quine for the one-timer.
Both teams' stars were shaken up during the game.
Concussion spotters pulled Jack Eichel from the game after he was shoved head-first into the boars by New York's Johnny Boychuck late in the third period. Eichel took part in the ensuing power play before going to the dressing room. He returned before the end of the third period.
Islanders captain John Tavares also left briefly in the second period after getting hit in the leg but was able to return.
NOTES: Sabres D Zach Bogosian (knee) sat out his 20th straight game. Bogosian and D Tyler Fedun (upper body) both skated Friday morning and one of them will enter the lineup on Buffalo's upcoming two-game road trip, coach Dan Bylsma said. Fedun has missed five games. . Islanders F Casey Cizikas (upper body) did not play after getting injured Thursday night. ... Ristolainen has a point in five straight games, the longest streak of his career.
UP NEXT:
Islanders: Host Ottawa on Sunday night.
Sabres: At Carolina on Saturday night.

Tri-State "State of Hockey" (December): Rangers cruising so far, Islanders hit obstacles
Now, they're first in the Metropolitan Division with a 16-7-1 record, and fresh off a win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
"We didn't start off the game the way we wanted," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said after Tuesday's game, his 270th game with the team. "You get behind the 8-ball against a hardworking team that can check real well, you need some people to come out and take charge."
The Rangers fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but after goals from Rick Nash and Nick Holden, rookie Jimmy Vesey put in the tie-breaking goal to give the Rangers a 3-2 win.
"I think the second period we started to get things going, playing with speed and getting possession, holding on to pucks down low in their end," Vesey said. "We got the first one and they might've tightened up. We talked about it before the game, but it was a big two points against an Eastern Conference team."
The Rangers have won 12 straight games against the Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden and are 20-3-0 against Carolina since Feb. 22, 2011.
The Rangers play their next game on Thursday night at the Buffalo Sabres.
The Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, then lost to the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, but bounced back by beating Carolina on Tuesday night.
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has been stellar this season, posting a 11-6-0-1 record with a .916 SV%, a 2.40 GAA, and 1 SO in 18 games played this season.
Islanders hit obstacles in the road: The New York Islanders sit last in the Metropolitan Division this season with a record of 7-10-4.
They have won only two of their last five games, with wins coming against the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames, and the losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks.
"These guys can't catch a break right now," head coach Jack Capuana said after the loss to San Jose. "We played well in LA and played well again here tonight and tried to get it into overtime. They get a stick on a puck."
The Islanders face the Penguins on Wednesday night.
The Islanders search of their first win against the Penguins this season, going 0-1-1 in the first two meetings. Both meetings were tied 2-2 heading into the final five minutes, with the Penguins winning 4-2 in Pittsburgh, while the Islanders took them to overtime at Barclays Center.
Devils struggle, but just a bit: The New Jersey Devils at 10-7-5 sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division through their first 22 games this season.
However, the team has only won one of their last five games, which was against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Devils lost to the Jets 3-2 on Tuesday night, but play the Blackhawks on Thursday night.
Sabres last in the Atlantic: The Buffalo sabres sit last in the Atlantic Division at 8-9-5.
They face the New York Rangers on Thursday night. The team defeated the Senators 5-4 last night.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes to Odell Beckham Jr., Jason Pierre-Paul returned a fumble for a TD, and the New York Giants extended their winning streak to six, holding off Cleveland to keep the Browns winless.
Manning had three TD passes. They don't overwhelm anyone, but the Giants (8-3) do just enough to win and are in position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011, when they won the Super Bowl.
Manning threw a 32-yard TD pass to Beckham in the second quarter and added a 4-yarder to the star wide receiver with 5:10 left to finally put away the Browns (0-12).
Cleveland has lost 15 in a row since last season. It is 3-30 since ending the 2014 season with five consecutive losses.
NFL: PATRIOTS 22, JETS 17
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Tom Brady tied Peyton Manning for the most wins by a quarterback in NFL history, getting his 200th by throwing a go-ahead 8-yard touchdown pass to Malcolm Mitchell with 1:56 left.
Trailing 17-16 with 5:04 left and the ball on the Patriots 17, Brady led an efficient drive by completing six passes. After James White stretched for 4 yards on fourth-and-4, a 25-yard catch by Chris Hogan put the ball at the 8. Brady then zipped a pass to Mitchell to put the Patriots (9-2) ahead.
A 2-point conversion try by White was initially ruled good, but the call was reversed because the ball never crossed the goal line — giving the Jets (3-8) a final chance.
But Chris Long hit Ryan Fitzpatrick before he could throw, resulting in a fumble that was recovered by Trey Flowers.
It was the 500th win in franchise history for the Patriots, who became the first original AFL franchise to reach the mark.

Dozens Arrested In NYC As Thousands Protest Against Trump’s Election Win
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The NYPD says dozens of people were arrested overnight as thousands of protesters marched in Manhattan and converged outside Trump Tower to denounce the election of Donald Trump to the presidency.
Around 65 people were arrested mostly for disorderly conduct with some for obstructing government administration and resisting arrest, police said.
One group of protesters began at Union Square Wednesday night, while another started at Columbus Circle. Splinter groups of protesters then streamed into the streets causing massive gridlock as police mobilized to contain them under a light rain.
Outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in midtown, police installed barricades to keep the demonstrators at bay.
The protesters chanted “Not my president” and “hey, hey, ho, ho Donald Trump has got to go.” They held signs that read “Trump Makes America Hate” and “Impeach Trump.”
“He’s a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, nightmare,” said protester KC Trommer. “Misogynist nightmare.”
Similar protests took place in major cities around the country.
From New England to heartland cities and along the West Coast, demonstrators bore flags and effigies of the president-elect, disrupting traffic and declaring that they refused to accept Trump’s victory.
Thousands of protesters burned a giant papier-mache Trump head in Los Angeles and started fires in Oakland intersections. Late in the evening, several hundred people blocked one of the city’s busiest freeways, U.S. 101 between downtown and Hollywood.
In Chicago, several thousand people marched through the Loop. They gathered outside Trump Tower, chanting “Not my president!”
Chicago resident Michael Burke said he believes the president-elect will “divide the country and stir up hatred.” He added there was a constitutional duty not to accept that outcome.
Hundreds of protesters gathered near Philadelphia’s City Hall despite chilly, wet weather. Participants, who included both supporters of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, expressed anger at both Republicans and Democrats over the election’s outcome.
In Boston, thousands of anti-Trump protesters streamed through downtown, chanting “Trump’s a racist” and carrying signs that said “Impeach Trump” and “Abolish Electoral College.”
There were other Midwest protest marches in Omaha, Nebraska, and Kansas City, Missouri.
Marchers protesting Trump’s election chanted and carried signs in front of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Dallas activists gathered by the dozens outside the city’s sports arena, the American Airlines Center.
In Oregon, dozens of people blocked traffic in downtown Portland, burned American flags and forced a delay for trains on two light-rail lines and hundreds massed in downtown Seattle streets.
But the fact is, American voters marched to the polls Tuesday and elected Trump to be the 45th president of the United States, CBS2’s Magdalena Doris reported.
For those marching in protest back in New York, it’s a reality they haven’t accepted.
“We reject the president-elect,” one protester said.
Protestors say they are fearful of policies that may marginalize many Americans, but are reassured by the popular vote, which Clinton appears to be on pace to win despite losing the electoral count that decides the presidential race.
“If there is some comfort in this, it’s to know the majority of Americans didn’t want this guy,” filmmaker and activist Michael Moore said.
However, the ground swell will not change the outcome of the election.
“I don’t think it will change anything because we have laws in place and they need to be respected in order for this country to be OK,” said Brooklyn resident Lauren Slakter.
And while there were resounding demonstrations across the country, others believe it’s time to get behind the new president-elect as a nation.
“I want them to give him a chance because they’re gonna see , he’s gonna make a change and we need it desperately,” said Trump supporter Cynthia Richmond.
“I think we have a new president, we should all unify and rally around President Trump,” another man said. “I think it’s done, move on give our streets back.”
Trump is set to meet with President Barack Obama Thursday at the White House.
Carmelo Anthony scores 22 points, Knicks beat Nets 110-96
Once that changed, the Knicks had an easy time in the first matchup this season between the New York rivals.
Anthony scored 14 of his 22 points in the third quarter and Kristaps Porzingis added 21 in the Knicks' 110-96 victory Wednesday night.
Rookie center Willy Hernangomez had a season-best 14 points, Derrick Rose also scored 14 and New York climbed out of a 14-point hole by holding the Nets to 27.5 percent shooting in the second half.
"Our bench guys were great," Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said. "They came in there, brought the energy, Melo got hot there in that third quarter and was rolling, so great second half for our guys to see what putting pressure and getting after it defensively can do for your team."
Brook Lopez and Justin Hamilton each scored 21 points for the Nets, who wilted on the second night of back-to-back games after a strong first half. Normally a good fourth-quarter team, they were outscored 38-25 while struggling to run their offense without an experienced NBA point guard.
New York, which came in allowing 109.8 points per game to rank 26th in the league, had more problems on that end in the first half but dominated the second.
And the Knicks got strong performances off their bench, with Brandon Jennings posting 11 assists and Hernangomez shooting 6 for 7.
The Nets, who set season highs for points and shooting percentage (55.3 percent) in their 119-110 victory over Minnesota on Tuesday, shot 55 percent in the first half and led 55-50.
Then Anthony, just 3 for 11 at halftime, had a baseline drive with the Knicks down nine and then turned to his jumper. He made five of them and then a pair of free throws, putting up 14 points in the final 5 minutes to give the Knicks a 72-71 lead.
"But even after that stretch it was a one-point game," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said. "Then I felt like the real difference was again their bench coming in and just took us out of our stuff."
Hernangomez provided a spark before Porzingis made a pair of 3-pointers and threw down a dunk while getting fouled as the lead grew to 92-78.
"Melo got it going. He probably had like 10 or 12 straight at one point, so that kind of just enlightened the whole team," Jennings said. "And then we were just taking care of the defensive end and then just finding KP coming down for transition 3s and then he got an and-1 dunk, so we were just clicking tonight."
TIP-INS
Nets: Brooklyn opened a five-game trip by falling to 0-3 on the road. ... Sean Kilpatrick made his first career start in his 43rd game. He came in averaging 16.6 points, tops among reserves.
Knicks: New York improved to 93-91 against the Nets. Brooklyn had won six of eight meetings over the previous two seasons.
POINT GUARD PROBLEMS
Brooklyn rookie Isaiah Whitehead, who had been starting at point guard with Jeremy Lin sidelined by a strained left hamstring, was placed in the concussion protocol, a night after hitting his head on the court. He finished that game but had a headache and experienced symptoms Wednesday. He will be out until he is symptom free and has passed the NBA's protocols. The Nets also waived point guard Greivis Vasquez, who struggled to recover from ankle problems, and recalled Yogi Ferrell from their NBA Development League team to make his NBA debut.
HIT THE ROAD
The Nets only had to go about 5 miles to start this road trip, and they have an even shorter segment during it. They play a back-to-back in the same building, facing the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday and the Lakers the next night in Staples Center.
UP NEXT
Nets: Visit Phoenix on Saturday to start the Western Conference portion of their trip.
Knicks: Visit Boston on Friday to start a tough road back-to-back against the top teams in their division. They visit reigning Atlantic champion Toronto on Saturday.

Nets keep Wolves winless on the road with 119-110 win
NEW YORK (AP) — No matter how much Tom Thibodeau screamed, his Minnesota Timberwolves clearly aren't hearing his message about defense.
Kenny Atkinson sure liked what he saw from his offense.
Brook Lopez scored 26 points, and the Brooklyn Nets kept the Timberwolves winless on the road with a 119-110 victory Tuesday night.
The Nets shot 55.3 percent from the field and had eight players with at least nine points, the kind of movement and involvement that Atkinson wanted to bring to Brooklyn from his time as an Atlanta assistant.
"We're sharing the wealth a little more and in the perfect Utopian motion system, that's what it should look like, where it's really everybody's touching it," Atkinson said.
It led to a surprisingly easy offensive performance against a young Wolves team that clearly hasn't yet grasped Thibodeau's defensive schemes.
Thibodeau, whose teams in Chicago were among the NBA's strongest defensively, said 110 points is "more than enough to win."
"Unless we correct the defensive end, it's going to be a struggle," he said. "That has to become a priority by everyone, otherwise nothing positive is going to happen."
Trevor Booker added 15 points and Sean Kilpatrick had 14 for the Nets.
Andrew Wiggins scored a career-high 36 points for the Wolves, making a career-best six 3-pointers. Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points, but scoring wasn't the problem for Minnesota.
The Wolves are 0-4 on the road and just 1-5 overall.
"We keep hearing we're young, that's why we're playing the way we play," Towns said. "That's not the reason. We're just not executing."
It was close most of the way, neither team having much luck stopping the other, and the Nets' lead was just two after Wiggins' jumper with 56 seconds left. Bojan Bogdanovic then made a 3-pointer with 37 seconds to go for a 115-110 lead, and Isaiah Whitehead and Bogdanovic closed it out with free throws.
Without injured point guards Jeremy Lin (strained left hamstring) and Greivis Vasquez (sore right ankle), the Nets got a scare in the first quarter when starter Whitehead had to leave the game after he fell onto the court and Gorgui Dieng accidentally stepped on his face. But the second-round draft pick from Brooklyn was able to return shortly after and had six points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
"That's the toughness we need and that's the definition of Brooklyn grit right there," Lopez said.
The Nets shot 62 percent in the first half and led 66-65 despite 19 points from Towns.

Timberwolves: The Timberwolves lost for just the fifth time in the last 15 meetings. ... Wiggins' previous career-bests were 35 points and four 3-pointers.
Nets: Randy Foye made his Nets debut after beginning the season with a strained right hamstring, scoring three points. ... Bogdanovic and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson each had 13 points.
EAST MEETS WEST
The Nets were playing their first Western Conference opponent in their seventh game, the longest they had gone into a season since moving to Brooklyn in 2012. The Wolves were playing their first East team.
SKILLED KILPATRICK
The Timberwolves once signed Kilpatrick in part because they were so short-handed they needed another player just to meet NBA rules of having eight in uniform, and he was playing in the NBA Development League close enough to arrive on time. Now he entered the game as the NBA's highest-scoring reserve with 17 points per game.
"He's still the guy that would get in a car and go to any game at any place," Atkinson said. "That guy, he's just a competitor. He's grinded through some tough times to get where he is and then he just keeps blossoming and we're giving him a lot of responsibility and he's answering the bell."

Burrows helps Canucks beat Rangers 5-3 to end 9-game skid
Indeed, it took a complete team effort to end their long losing streak.
Alexandre Burrows scored twice in the third period, and Henrik Sedin and Sven Baertschi each had a goal and an assist to help the Canucks snap a nine-game skid with a 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.
Loui Eriksson also scored for the Canucks, who were 0-8-1 with eight straight regulation losses since opening the season with four wins. Bo Horvat had two assists and Jacob Markstrom finished with 23 saves as Vancouver won for the first time since beating Buffalo on Oct. 20.
"I thought we played the right way," Burrows said. "We did a lot of good things defensively at the lines. We pressured a really good team, a fast team, and on the D side, we made some good plays, good reads. ... (Markstrom) played great again and it's a big team win."
The Canucks, outscored 28-9 with four shutouts in the previous eight games, had their most goals since a 4-3 overtime win against Carolina on Oct. 16 in the second game of the season.
Burrows took advantage of a loose puck to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead at 9:21 of the third. Henrik Lundqvist made a sprawling save on a shot in close by Horvat, but the puck stayed out at the right side as several players jabbed at it before Burrows knocked it in for his first of the season.
"It was nice, especially at that time in the game," Burrows said. "We're in a situation now where we (hadn't) won in a while, so any time you can score it makes it feel even better."
Rick Nash, Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad scored for the Rangers, who had won five straight while scoring at least five goals in each game. Buchnevich also had two assists.
Antti Raanta stopped 20 shots, though he left for 6:19 in the third period after being run into by the Canucks' Markus Granlund. Lundqvist made four saves on six shots while filling in.
"They were a desperate team and they played like it tonight," Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh said. "They won more puck battles than us and they had the puck a little bit more than us. And when they had opportunities to score, they beared down and capitalized."
Baertschi put Vancouver ahead by two as he tipped in a centering pass by Jack Skille for his first of the season with 6:52 left. Burrows added an empty-netter with 3:06 remaining to make it 5-2, and Zibanejad scored for the Rangers with 59 seconds to go to cap the scoring.
"That's how you score goals in this league," Eriksson said. "You need to be hungry in front of the net. I thought we stepped up really well today. It was nice to get the win."
Sedin put the Canucks ahead 2-1 at 2:29 of the third when he fired a slap shot past Raanta for his fifth goal. It came just 8 seconds after Sedin came out of the penalty box following a high-sticking infraction.
Nash tied it at 5:27 with his 400th career goal. With the Rangers on a power play, Buchnevich sent a pass from the right faceoff circle to Nash at the left side of the net and the veteran left wing tipped it into the open net.
Buchnevich got the Rangers on the board at 7:20 with his third of the season, scoring for the third straight game. Markstrom got a piece of the puck but it got past the goalie and trickled over the goal line. Brady Skjei got an assist on the play, giving him one for the sixth straight game.
The Canucks tied it with 4:42 left in the second on Eriksson's first with the Canucks. He took a centering pass from Daniel Sedin from the left side of the net, slid to the right side and backhanded the puck over the legs of a sprawled Ranta.
NOTES: Daniel Sedin's assist on Eriksson's goal gave him a point in three straight games (two goals, one assist). Daniel Sedin has six goals and seven assists in 16 games against the Rangers. ... Henrik Sedin has four goals and eight assists in 15 games against the Rangers. ... Coming off a 4-2 loss at the New York Islanders on Monday night, Vancouver completed the fifth of 15 back-to-backs this season. The Canucks are 2-3-0 on the second nights. ... The Rangers and Canucks conclude their season series on Nov. 15 at Vancouver. ... The Rangers were called for two penalties after having been whistled for an NHL-low 78 penalty minutes in their first 13 games.

Cammalleri gets hat trick, Devils beat Hurricanes 4-1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Michael Cammalleri made up for lost time Sunday night.
Cammalleri got his first three goals of the season, lifting the New Jersey Devils over the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 for their first road victory.
"It was nice to get them to hit the back of the net," Cammalleri said.
Cammalleri scored twice in the second period and again midway through the third for his sixth career hat trick. Captain Andy Greene scored into an empty net for New Jersey.
The Devils improve to 1-3-2 away from home. Keith Kinkaid got his first win of the season behind 33 saves.
"Getting the first road win, hopefully it will be like Cami's first goal and open the flood gates for us," Kinkaid said. "He had a tremendous game, and it was good to get the win."
New Jersey had been off to its worst road start since going 0-5-2 in 2013-14. The Devils lost to Florida 4-3 in overtime and then suffered a 4-1 loss at Tampa Bay in their last two outings.
"We didn't like the way things were going in the last couple," Cammalleri said. "To be able to nip that in the bud a little bit and now go back home means we can build on something."
Carolina's Andrej Nestrasil scored with 6:59 left in the third period. Eddie Lack stopped 17 shots in his first home start.
Cammalleri's first goal came 4:31 into the second. He took a cross-ice pass from Travis Zajac and scored easily from just inside the left circle. He scored again just over three minutes later, slipping a shot under Lack's pads on a rush from near the left faceoff dot.
He completed the hat trick on a shot from the left side 8:30 into the third.
Cammalleri has five goals and four assists in his last six games against the Hurricanes. He also had a key blocked shot late as Carolina was pressing.
Carolina pulled Lack for an extra skater with four minutes left but could not generate another goal.
The Hurricanes began the year with one of the league's top power-play units but have gone four games without a man-advantage goal. They were 0 for 4 in this one.
"It comes down to execution," coach Bill Peters said. "It comes down to confidence and it comes down to five guys doing their part."
NOTES: Carolina F Jordan Staal played his 700th NHL game. ... Carolina D Justin Faulk left with an undisclosed injury and did not return to the game. ... Greene played in his 322nd straight game, the fourth-longest stretch in club history.

Miller, Fast, Buchnevich lead Rangers past Jets 5-2
NEW YORK (AP) — Although the New York Rangers didn't play an especially dominant style, they did enough to keep up their winning play.
J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast and Pavel Buchnevich scored 4:04 apart late in the second period to lead the high-scoring Rangers to their fifth straight victory, 5-2 over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.
"Tonight is a good night to use 'never critique a win,' just take the win," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. "It was our fifth game in eight nights, fourth game in six nights. ... These are tough on players, tough physically, tough mentally. You've got to grind it out."
Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello also scored, Kevin Klein and Brandon Pirri had two assists and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 24 shots as New York won for the eighth time in nine games. The Rangers, who lead the NHL with 55 goals and 4.23 per game, have scored at least five in each game of their winning streak.
"We've played a lot of hockey lately," Miller said. "Some games you don't really have it, but you find ways to get it done. ... I think we're finding a way for everybody to contribute right now and it's hard to stop for the opposition if you have four lines rolling like that."
Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele scored for Winnipeg, which has lost four of its last five (1-3-1). Connor Hellebuyck started and gave up four goals on 16 shots before he was replaced late in the second period by Michael Hutchinson, who finished with one save.
After a scoreless first half of the second period in which Winnipeg had a 4-1 advantage on shots, the Rangers outscored the Jets 4-1 over the final 10 minutes.
"I think we are a little bit guilty of getting too excited about our zone time and some of our lateral plays that we tried to make instead of getting right to the net," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "That's what (the Rangers) are good at, they'll transition off of that. They can shoot the puck off the rush and we got burned by it."
Zuccarello fired a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle past Hellebuyck for his sixth to put the Rangers up 2-1 just past the midpoint of the second.
Scheifele tied it 2 minutes later as he pounced on a puck sitting in front of an open net after a shot by Paul Postma was stopped by Lundqvist. It was Scheifele's seventh of the season.
Miller skated up the right side and fired a wrist shot over Hellebuyck's right shoulder for his fifth, putting the Rangers up 3-2 with 6:59 remaining.
Fast gave New York a two-goal lead with 3:36 left as he tipped a point shot by Klein from the right faceoff circle for his second goal. That chased Hellebuyck and brought on Hutchinson.
Buchnevich made it 5-2 just 41 seconds later as he slid the puck from his backhand across to the left side in front of Hutchinson and fired it over the sprawled goalie. It was Buchnevich's second of the season and second in two games.
"It should be on the highlights," Vigneault said. "It's going to be up in Canada anyway, they look for goals like that. It was a great goal."
The Jets controlled play in the scoreless third period, outshooting the Rangers 9-1, but couldn't get anything past Lundqvist.
"I don't think we are super pleased with everything in our game but we are finding ways to win games," Lundqvist said.
Hayes got the Rangers off to a fast start with his sixth of the season 2:12 into the game. Skating with an extra attacker on a delayed penalty, Hayes took a pass from Klein and fired a slap shot from inside the blue line past Hellebuyck. That gave Hayes a goal in four straight games.
Laine tied it with 9:15 left in the first, tipping a point shot by Ben Chiarot for the 18-year-old rookie's eighth of the season.
NOTES: Laine, selected by Winnipeg with the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, scored for the second straight game after going without a point in his previous four. ... The teams conclude their season series Dec. 8 at Winnipeg. ... Hayes has a point in five straight games (four goals, five assists). ... Brady Skjei had an assist on Hayes' goal, giving him a point in five straight games (six assists).

Artem Anisimov lifts Blackhawks past Devils in OT
AP Sports Writer
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Down by a goal and late in a four-minute power play in the closing minutes of the third period, Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville took a chance and pulled his goaltender with more than two minutes to play.
It didn't take long for Marian Hossa to make the gamble pay off, setting the stage for Artem Anisimov to be a hero in overtime.
Hossa tied the score with 2:11 remaining in regulation and Anisimov scored on a rebound at 1:15 of overtime as the Blackhawks rallied to beat New Jersey 3-2 on Friday night, handing the Devils their first home loss.
"Time was running out and 6-on-4 is a pretty dangerous look," Quenneville said. "Fortunately, we had a quick little play at the net. We had an ordinary 5-on-4 and it was running out, and I still figured with 2 1/2 (minutes) or two and change, you'd like that 6-on-4."
Hossa was the player who came off the bench with about 35-to-40 seconds left in the four-minute high-sticking penalty to Vernon Fiddler, and it only took about 10 seconds for him to score.
Jonathan Toews sent the puck from the right circle through the crease and Richard Panik and Hossa swept their sticks at it simultaneously with Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid on the other side of the net.
"It was a free lane at the far post and I put everything I had just to make sure I put it in the net," Hossa said. "I know Richard put his stick there also, and we just shoveled everything into the net. It doesn't matter who got the goal as long as it was the tying goal."
Artemi Panarin, who also scored for Chicago, took a shot from the right circle on Anisimov's fifth goal of the season. Kinkaid, who made 26 saves, stopped the shot but he no chance on the rebound.
"The puck came to me in the right position, and I just put it in," Anisimov said.
Crawford had kept the Blackhawks in the game in the first two periods, stopping 25 of 26 shots, including all 16 in the second period.
Chicago outshot New Jersey 17-4 in the third period and overtime.
PA Parenteau and John Moore scored for New Jersey, which was 3-0 at home. Kinkaid made 26 saves in his first start of the season.
"If you break this game down, we controlled the play, we played hard, dictated the play of the game," Devils coach John Hynes said. "We played hard enough to earn a point, and didn't play smart enough to earn two points."
Moore had given the Devils the lead early in the third period with a slam dunk in front.
Taylor Hall did all the work on Moore's first goal of the season. He carried the puck into the Blackhawks zone, skated into the right circle and sent a backhand pass toward the net. The puck hit off the skate of Devils forward Kyle Palmieri and went right to a wide-open Moore.
Panarin, who hit a goalpost in the first period, tied the score 1-1 in the second period with a power-play goal just 13 seconds after Devils defenseman Damon Severson was called for hooking.
Patrick Kane found last year's rookie of the year in the left circle and he beat Kinkaid with a shot to the top corner with Anisimov screening the goaltender.
Parenteau had given New Jersey the lead with a power-play goal with 4:28 left in the first period. Crawford stopped defenseman Yohann Auvitu's point shot, but the puck popped in the air, hit off Devils forward Devante Smith-Pelly and Parenteau swatted in the rebound for his third goal.
Crawford was the difference in second period, stopping all 16 shots by New Jersey. His best were a snapping glove on a Hall power-play chance with New Jersey ahead 1-0 and point-blank rebound stop of Beau Bennett with the game tied 1-all.
NOTES: Blackhawks assistant coach Kevin Dineen turned 53. ... Nick Lappin, a Geneva, Illinois, native who grew up a Blackhawks' fan, make his NHL debut for the Devils. ... The Devils were 2-0 against Chicago last season. ... Anisimov leads the Blackhawk with 10 points.

Lin leads Nets past Pacers, 103-94 in home opener
AP Basketball Writer
NEW YORK (AP) -- Jeremy Lin fell just short of a triple-double, though there was a 10th assist after the buzzer.
The point guard tracked down the game ball and gave it to Kenny Atkinson, who got his first win as an NBA coach not far from where he grew up.
"Pretty special," Atkinson said, his eyes welling up a bit.
Lin had 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in his Nets home debut, Brook Lopez scored 25 and Brooklyn beat the Indiana Pacers 103-94 on Friday night.
Lin drew some delirious cheers the way he briefly did during his run of Linsanity last time he played in New York, with the Knicks in 2012.
Atkinson was the assistant coach who worked closely with him on that team, and Lin's first thought was of the Northport native when the buzzer sounded.
"This is his and he deserves it, and I better not see him play with that ball or whatever," Lin said. "He better get that framed and make sure he knows."
Sean Kilpatrick hit consecutive 3-pointers during the decisive fourth-quarter surge and finished with 18 points for the Nets, who lost to Boston in their opener.
Paul George had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Pacers, who were outscored 31-15 in the fourth quarter.
The Nets opened their fifth season in Brooklyn by improving to 4-1 in home openers, an immediate highlight in a rebuilding season where there aren't expected to be many of them.
"They brought the fight to us," George said. "We knew coming in that this team necessarily (did not have) have the names but they play hard and they play together."
The Pacers, who opened with a 130-121 overtime victory over Dallas, surged into the lead with a 31-point third quarter.
But the Nets answered with a run early in the fourth, then took control after George's basket tied it at 85 midway through the period.
Justin Hamilton's three-point play snapped the tie and Kilpatrick followed with consecutive 3-pointers to put the Nets up 94-85 with about 4 minutes left. Lin closed it out down the stretch with some free throws and a basket in the lane.
"I thought Brooklyn came out and played harder than we did," Pacers coach Nate McMillan said.
Pacers: Myles Turner, who had 30 points and 16 rebounds in the opener, finished with 13 points and 11 boards. ... G Aaron Brooks missed the game with a sore right knee.
Nets: Lopez played in his 489th game, tying Richard Jefferson for seventh on the Nets' career list. Next up is Kerry Kittles at 496. ... Herb Turetzky began his 50th season as the Nets' official scorer. They acknowledged him during a first-quarter timeout.
FREQUENT GUESTS
The Nets improved to 3-3 against the Pacers in home openers. The Pacers' six visits tied them with Atlanta for the most frequent home-opening opponent.
THAD GLAD
Thaddeus Young scored 19 points. He spent 1 1/2 seasons in Brooklyn and was told last spring by general manager Sean Marks that he wouldn't be traded. Then he was dealt, getting dealt to Indiana for the rights to first-round pick Caris LeVert. He wasn't disappointed by the deal, even though he's still trying to sell his home in Brooklyn. "I think the farther we got into the summer, I think they realized that there wasn't any use in just holding me or continuing to keep me here if I'm trying to be in situations where I'm trying to win," Young said.
HOME SWEET HOME
Kilpatrick, a Yonkers, New York native, has scored in double figures in 21 of his 25 games as a Net. He is 20-for-40 from 3-point range in nine career home games at Barclays Center.
