NJ Transit officer saves life of man who jumped on tracks

New Jersey Transit police officer Victor Ortiz saved the life of a man who jumped onto a train track on Friday morning saying he wanted to die and didn't want to be arrested.

The 16-year veteran got a call at Secaucus Junction about the incident, and pulled the man away from the tracks from the oncoming train, and then arrested him.

"He said 'I just want to die, I just want to die, I just want to die', I said no, I'm not going to let you die," said Ortizin an interview with ABC7NY.

Ortiz usually works the night shift and goes home at 7 a.m., but because of staffing issues he stayed late that day.
