Yankees fall to Rays 6-3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Drew Smyly struck out Alex Rodriguez three times en route to stopping an 11-start winless streak, and Tampa Bay sent New York to its third straight loss.

Smyly (3-11) gave up two runs and four hits in six innings, and Alex Colome worked the ninth to get his 24th save. Tampa Bay is 7-5 since losing 24 of 27.

Rodriguez, out of the starting lineup the previous six games, struck out in all four of his at-bats. The 41-year-old designated hitter has two hits in last 26 at-bats, dropping his season average to .206.

Tampa Bay's Brad Miller hit a solo homer in the first, and Curt Casali had a two-run drive during the third. Tim Beckham made it 6-2 on a two-run shot in the seventh.

Brett Gardner and Chase Headley homered for the Yankees. Nathan Eovaldi (9-7) was the loser.

Rockies defeat Mets 7-2

NEW YORK (AP) — Jorge De La Rosa earned his 100th career victory and Colorado eventually caught up with Bartolo Colon, beating New York in the rain for their fifth straight win.

The Rockies improved to 12-4 since the All-Star break and won despite losing NL home run leader Trevor Story to a jammed left thumb. He seemed to get hurt on a scrambling slide in the fourth, exited early and X-rays on the rookie shortstop were negative.

On the day the Mets retired Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza's No. 31, the Mets lost their fourth in row. The 43-year-old Colon (9-6) faltered in his first start on three days' rest since 2005, and slugger Yoenis Cespedes left in midgame because of a nagging quad injury.

Colorado retired New York's last 16 batters. Mets manager Terry Collins was ejected in the ninth after umpires overturned their original call and took away a home run from Wilmer Flores, ruling a fan reached over the wall and prevented left fielder David Dahl from making a catch.

DJ LeMahieu drove in three runs and Dahl hit his second homer since making his big league debut this week, helping the Rockies reach .500 for the first time since late May.

De La Rosa (7-7) gave up two runs in six innings. He is 100-82.

Yankees lose to Rays 5-1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jake Odorizzi pitched masterfully into the seventh inning, Logan Forsythe and Corey Dickerson hit solo homers in the first, and Tampa Bay Rayscooled off New York.

The Yankees had won eight of 11 to close within 3 1/2 games of Boston for the second AL wild card.

Odorizzi (5-5) struck out five and allowed six hits over 6 2/3 innings. Alex Colome entered with two on and one out in the ninth, and got two straight outs for his 23rd save.

Ivan Nova (7-6) gave up five runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Mets lose to Rockies 6-1

NEW YORK (AP) - Tyler Chatwood kept winning on the road, Carlos Gonzalez homered and drove in four runs and Colorado beat New York for its fourth straight victory.

Mark Reynolds also homered for the surging Rockies. They are 11-4 since the All-Star break and have moved within four games of Miami for the second NL wild-card spot.

Chatwood (10-6) improved to 6-0 with a 1.30 ERA away from Coors Field this season. The 26-year-old is 4-6 with a 5.69 ERA at home.

Gonzalez matched a season-high hitting streak of 11 games with an RBI double in the first. He hit a 448-foot, three-run drive in the ninth for his 21st homer.

Steven Matz (8-7) was the loser.

Mets can't beat Rockies, fall 2-1

NEW YORK (AP) — New York closer Jeurys Familia stumbled for a second straight game, allowing two runs in the ninth inning in a loss that handed Colorado its seventh victory in eight games.

Less than 24 hours after Familia's streak of 52 consecutive regular-season saves was snapped, the right-hander entered in the top of the ninth with a 1-0 lead, and couldn't hold it.

Trevor Story had a leadoff single and stole second. After fellow rookie David Dahl walked, Daniel Descalso bunted up the first base line. Mets catcher Rene Rivera watched as the ball spun toward foul territory but it stopped fair, loading the bases with no out.

With one out, Familia (2-3) got pinch-hitter Cristhian Adames to hit a slow grounder to the right side. First baseman James Loney booted the ball and Story scored to make it 1-all. Familia then threw a wild pitch, allowing Dahl to cross the plate with the go-ahead run.

Jordan Lyles (3-3) pitched a scoreless eighth for the Rockies, and closer Carlos Estevez had a perfect ninth for his 11th save.

Mets fall to Cardinals 5-4

NEW YORK (AP) — Yadier Molina and pinch-hitter Kolten Wong each had an RBI double in the ninth inning, and St. Louis rallied past New York to end Jeurys Familia's saves streak at 52 games.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a go-ahead homer off Adam Wainwright to cap a three-run comeback in the seventh that gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. But then Familia, who hadn't blown a regular-season save opportunity since July 30 last year, finally faltered.

Jedd Gyorko drew a one-out walk in the ninth and was replaced by pinch-runner Randal Grichuk. Molina hit the next pitch to deep center field, and Grichuk scored to tie it.

Molina was thrown out at third by Familia (2-2) on pinch-hitter Jeremy Hazelbaker's comebacker, but Hazelbaker stole second and scored when Wong lined a double just inside the left-field line.

Familia's franchise-record saves streak was the third-longest in major league history behind Tom Gordon (54) and Eric Gagne (84). Jonathan Broxton (3-2) threw a scoreless eighth, and Seung Hwan Oh worked the ninth for his sixth save.

Astros beat Yankees 4-1

HOUSTON (AP) — Lance McCullers struck out 10 in six innings, Colby Rasmus broke out of a slump with a two-run homer and Houston beat New York.

Rasmus snapped an 0-for-29 skid when he sent an off-speed pitch from Masahiro Tanaka (7-3) into the seats behind the bullpen in right-center field to make it 4-0 with in the third.

McCullers (6-4) allowed five hits and one run and tied a season high by fanning 10 for the second straight game. Ken Giles and Luke Gregerson pitched a scoreless inning each before Will Harris got his 11th save by striking out two in the ninth.

Yankees defeat Astros 6-3

HOUSTON (AP) - CC Sabathia allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings to get back on track after a tough stretch and help New York over Houston.

Sabathia (6-8) allowed four hits and struck out five to pick up his first win since June 16 after going 0-4 and allowing 31 runs - 29 earned - combined in his past six starts.

Sabathia allowed a solo home run to Marwin Gonzalez in the first inning. But the big lefty settled in after that, allowing only one single over the next five innings.

The Yankees built a five-run lead, thanks in part to a two-run triple by Aaron Hicks, by the time Evan Gattis homered to start Houston's seventh and cut it to 6-2.

Andrew Miller allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth for his second save since Aroldis Chapman was traded Monday and ninth overall.

Houston starter Doug Fister (10-7) allowed nine hits and six runs, which both tied season highs, in 4 2/3 innings.

Gonzalez added a solo homer in the eighth for his first career multihomer game.

Cardinals win Game 1, but Mets win game two in double-header on Tuesday

NEW YORK (AP) - Bartolo Colon pitched three-hit ball for seven sharp innings and New York overcame another home run by Jedd Gyorko to beat St. Louis for a doubleheader split.

Gyorko homered in both ends and has connected seven times in nine games. His two-run shot helped the Cardinals win the opener 3-2.

Colon (9-5) struck out eight and walked none. After Gyorko homered in the second and Alberto Rosario doubled in the third, Colon set down 14 of his final 15 batters.

Jeurys Familia closed for his 36th save this year and 52nd in a row during the regular season.

Asdrubal Cabrera ended his 0-for-32 rut with runners in scoring position with an RBI double and added a sacrifice fly off Jaime Garcia (7-7). Wilmer Flores doubled and singled twice.

In the opener, Gyorko homered off Noah Syndergaard (9-5) for a 3-0 lead.

Carlos Martinez (10-6) gave up a two-run homer to Rene Rivera and left after the fifth inning. Three relievers finished, with Seung Hwan Oh getting his fifth save.

Yankees defeat Astros 2-1

HOUSTON (AP) Austin Romine hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning to make a winner of Michael Pineda, and the New York Yankees' bullpen did just fine Monday night without star closer Aroldis Chapman in a 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros.

Hours after New York traded Chapman to the Chicago Cubs, All-Star relievers Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller closed out Houston to help the fourth-place Yankees (51-48) move three games above .500 for the first time this season.

Betances struck out the side in the eighth before Miller, back in the ninth-inning role following Chapman's departure, earned his eighth save. The left-hander got Carlos Gomez to ground into a game-ending double play with two on.

Pineda (5-9) pitched seven strong innings to beat Yankees nemesis Dallas Keuchel (6-10), last year's AL Cy Young Award winner.

George Springer hit a leadoff homer and Luis Valbuena had three hits for Houston, which had won four straight. Top prospect Alex Bregman went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts in his major league debut.

Yankees deal Aroldis Chapman to Cubs

The Yankees on Monday reeportedly recieved 19-year-old shortstop Gleyber Torres, the Cubs' No. 1 prospect and No. 24 overall per MLB Pipeline, outfielder Billy McKinney, right-hander Adam Warren and outfielder Rashad Crawford from the Chicago Cubs for reliever Aroldis Chapman.

Chapman, 28, is 3-0 with 20 saves and a 2.01 ERA in 31 appearances this season, striking out 44 batters in 31 1/3 innings. He is eligible for free agency after this season, though reports Sunday afternoon indicated the Cubs wished to engage in contract extension talks before agreeing to the trade.

McKinney, 21, came to the Cubs with shortstopAddison Russell in 2014 in the deal that sentJeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the A's. McKinney, who ranks fifth in the Cubs' system and No. 75 overall, is hitting .252 with one home run, 12 doubles and three triples in 88 games for Double-A Tennessee this season. The left-handed hitter is a former first-round Draft pick and profiles as a left fielder in the Majors.

Warren is returning to the Yankees, with whom he began his Major League career before being traded to the Cubs this offseason for Starlin Castro. The right-handed swingman is 3-2 with a 5.91 ERA in 29 appearances this season, including one start. He was in the process of being stretched out at Triple-A Iowa for additional rotation depth.

Crawford, 22, was the Cubs' 11th-round Draft pick in 2012. He is hitting .255 with three homers and eight triples in 83 games with Myrtle Beach.

Mets defeat Marlins 3-0

MIAMI (AP) — Steven Matz pitched six innings for his first win since May, and New York took the rubber game of a series against Miami.

Matz (8-6) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six. Pitching despite a bone spur in his elbow, he had been 0-5 in his past nine starts with an ERA of 4.73.

The Mets won two of three games in the series and returned home trailing second-place Miami by half a game in the NL East.

Miami drew consolation from an encouraging start by Jose Urena (1-2), who allowed only one run in six innings.

Yankees defeat Giants 5-2

NEW YORK (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning, Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira hit early solo home runs and New York completed a 6-4 homestand that likely was too little and too late to keep management from selling off players ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline.

Making his second start following a brief bullpen banishment, Eovaldi (9-6) carried a five-hitter into the seventh. Chad Green, brought back from Triple-A last week, pitched 2 1/3 innings for his first big league save.

NL West-leading San Francisco completed a 1-7 road trip that opened the second half. Jeff Samardzija (9-6) gave up five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Williamson, Giants beat Yanks 2-1 in 12 innings, stop skid

By the Associated Press.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mac Williamson had crossed paths with Ivan Nova before.

"Fun fact about Nova. I had TJ the same day he did," the San Francisco Giants rookie said, thinking back to their visit to Dr. James Andrews for Tommy John surgery on April 29, 2014. "How many guys face each other after you have surgery, the same day, the same surgeon? That's kind of cool."

Williamson started the comeback with a home run off Nova leading off the fifth inning, then hit a tiebreaking single in the 12th that lifted San Francisco over the New York Yankees 2-1 on Saturday to give the relieved Giants their first victory since the All-Star break.

"I think every good team goes through a little lull at some point in the season," Williamson said.

NL West-leading San Francisco had lost a season-high six straight games and had held just one lead in 57 innings following the break: when Buster Posey hit a go-ahead home run leading off the 10th inning at San Diego on July 16 only to have the Padres rally for a pair of runs in the bottom half against Santiago Casilla.

A 46th-round draft pick in 2011, Williamson had allowed the Yankees to go ahead in the fourth. With Didi Gregorius on first, Mark Teixeira singled to right against Johnny Cueto, and Williamson allowed the ball to kick off his glove for an error that let Gregorius come home.

"I really was upset with myself," Williamson said. "I rushed the play down the line there trying to keep the double play in order there for Cueto."

His sixth home run this season came on a flat sinker and was just his second in 29 at-bats against right-handers. Even before the error, Williamson was peeved because he was thrown out at the plate in the second when he tried to score on Ramiro Pena's double.

New York's No Runs DMC trio of Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman and Dellin Betances held the Giants scoreless for four innings before Trevor Brown hit an opposite-field double to right off Anthony Swarzak (1-1) leading off the 12th. Williamson singled up the middle with one out, just past the glove of diving Gregorius at shortstop. San Francisco had been 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position, dropping to 7 for 63 (.111) since the All-Star break.

"We're not getting that timely hit, but we finally did tonight — it is night now, isn't it?" Giants manager Bruce Bochy said after the 4-hour, 25-minute game.

Bochy was impressed that Williamson didn't let his error get him down.

"He put that behind him. He didn't let it bother him," Bochy said. "That's what you have to be in this game: resilient.".

San Francisco had joined the 1991 Los Angeles Dodgers as the only teams to enter the break in first place, then lose its first six games of the second half, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. And after making four errors in the series opener, San Francisco had two more.

Jeff Samardzija had been listed as San Francisco's starter, but Bochy said his intent all along was to start Cueto and attributed the mixup to a failure to inform his media relations staff.

In a late-afternoon start on a 93-degree day, Cueto struggled with deep counts but allowed just the unearned run and six hits in six innings. He struck out nine — including five in a row — and threw 117 pitches, two shy of his season high.

Cheered on by hundreds of orange-clad fans in the Giants' old hometown, San Francisco escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 10th when Casilla (2-3) retired Brian McCann on a shallow flyout and Starlin Castro on a foulout. Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect 12th for his second save.

Casilla has heard the rumors the Giants are seeking to trade for a closer with a high-strikeout ratio.

"At first it would bother me. I've been doing the job," he said through a translator. "I have a lot of experience during the regular season, the playoffs. I have three World Series rings and I have shown that I can do the job."

NOT SO SIMPLE

With Angel Pagan on third in the 11th, McCann signaled for an intentional walk to Brandon Crawford, and Betances threw the ball to the screen. But Pagan, held closely at third by Chase Headley, decided to stay, and Crawford hit an inning-ending grounder.

San Francisco leads the majors with 30 come-from-behind wins.

Stanton homers to help Fernandez and Marlins defeat Mets, 7-2

By the Associated Press.

MIAMI (AP) – Giancarlo Stanton homered and had his first four-hit game since 2012, driving in three runs to give Jose Fernandez all the support he needed, and the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 7-2 on Saturday night.

Miami rocked Jacob deGrom (6-5), who allowed 10 hits and five runs, both season highs, and lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his shortest outing since August.

Fernandez (12-4) gave up two runs in seven innings to match his career high for victories, achieved in his 2013 rookie season. He also had two hits, hiking his average to .265, and drove in the first run.

Fernandez improved to 26-1 with a 1.47 ERA in 37 starts at Marlins Park.

Home Run Derby winner Stanton put Miami ahead to stay in the third inning when he hit a majestic two-run homer off the left-field scoreboard above the 401-foot sign. He added an RBI single in the fourth, and singled in the first and sixth, hiking his average to .241 after a prolonged slump.

DeGrom was coming off the first complete game of his career, a one-hit shutout in his last start, but his anticipated pitcher's duel with Fernandez failed to materialize. The Mets right-hander allowed at least two baserunners in every inning he worked, and his ERA rose to 2.73.

DeGrom's best moment came at the plate, where he doubled to lead off the third, his first extra-base hit since July 2015. He scored on a single by Yoenis Cespedes, and James Loney's sacrifice fly gave the Mets a 2-1 lead.

But that was all they managed against Fernandez. He hit 99 mph in the first inning, and his final pitch was a 98-mph fastball to Cespedes for strike three.

Christian Yelich led off the Miami third with a single, and Stanton dented the scoreboard with a homer that landed between the words BALLS and STRIKES. Stanton has six homers in 10 games against the Mets this year, including three this month off deGrom.

Yelich had three of the Marlins' 16 hits, and Martin Prado drove in two runs.

SUZUKI UPDATE

Miami's Ichiro Suzuki grounded out as a pinch hitter to end the eighth and remained four hits shy of 3,000.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Mets: 1B Lucas Duda (back) visited the team, took swings for the first time since his injury and said he hopes to be ready for a rehab assignment in a couple of weeks. "I feel good. I'm progressing on the right track," said Duda, who hasn't faced pitching yet.

REHAB

Marlins: 2B Dee Gordon went 2 for 13 in his first four games with Triple-A New Orleans as he prepares to return next week from an 80-game suspension for a positive drug test. Marlins manager Don Mattingly said reports regarding Gordon's progress have been encouraging. "He's swinging the bat good and looks good for a guy who hasn't played in a while," Mattingly said.

UP NEXT

LHP Steven Matz (7-6, 3.56) is scheduled to start Sunday for the Mets in the rubber game of the series against RHP Jose Urena (1-1, 6.23). Matz is 0-2 with a 7.07 ERA in three career starts against Miami.

Reyes' 3 hits help Mets edge Marlins 5-3

MIAMI (AP) — Jose Reyes kept getting on base Friday night, and the New York Mets started looking like a different team.

Reyes had his first three-hit game since joining the run-starved Mets early this month and scored twice to help them beat the Miami Marlins 5-3.

"He's like a can of Red Bull balled up into a human being," teammate Logan Verrett said, "and that's something we were lacking."

Reyes drove in a run, stole a base and scored on two sacrifice flies by Yoenis Cespedes. The Mets' new leadoff hitter had two hits from the right side and one from the left, and even reached on a strikeout thanks to a passed ball.

"Today I feel very good," Reyes said. "I felt like I was seeing the ball better from both sides of the plate. Hopefully I can continue to be like that. When you have a good game like that, you have to be a little bit consistent and remind yourself what you were doing to be successful."

Jeurys Familia gave up an RBI single by pinch-hitter Martin Prado in the ninth before retiring Adeiny Hechavarria with two on for his 50th consecutive save, including 34 this season to lead the majors. The Mets closed within a half-game of second-place Miami in the NL East.

Verrett took a shutout into the sixth but departed after giving up a two-run homer to Christian Yelich, his 10th. Hansel Robles (5-3) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Mets' James Loney entered the game as a defensive replacement and hit a two-run homer into the upper deck in the ninth.

Reyes led off the game with a double, stole third and scored on Cespedes' flyout. Reyes' two-out RBI single in the fourth put the Mets ahead 2-0, and he scored on another sacrifice fly by Cespedes in the seventh for a 3-2 lead.

It was the kind of performance the Mets envisioned from the 33-year-old Reyes when they signed him, manager Terry Collins said.

"This guy produces runs," Collins said. "He gets on base, he gets in scoring position. I realize that even though he is fast, he is probably a step slower than he was five years ago. But he's still a great baserunner, and he creates havoc on the bases."

Reyes raised his average to .250 and made a fine play at third base to rob Hechavarria.

"I never stopped believing in what I can do on the field when someone gives me an opportunity," he said. "I'm going to continue to get better."

The game was Reyes' first at Marlins Park since he played for Miami in 2012, when he and the team endured a rocky season. He downplayed the significance of his return.

"It doesn't mean anything," he said. "It was another game."

Adam Conley gave up two runs in six innings for Miami. David Phelps (4-5) allowed the Mets' run in the seventh.

Manager Don Mattingly found little to fault in the performance of his Marlins, who returned to town from a seven-game trip at 4:30 a.m.

"I thought we were really good," Mattingly said. "Adam battled and we got back into the game. You always want rest, but we're not going to make excuses. We had a chance to win that game."

SUZUKI UPDATE

The Marlins' Ichiro Suzuki struck out on three pitches in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter and remained four hits shy of 3,000.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Mets: RHP Zack Wheeler, making a slow recovery from Tommy John surgery in March 2015, threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session. He said the next step will be to face batters before he goes on a minor league rehab assignment.

Marlins: 1B Justin Bour (sprained ankle) is expected to start doing work on the field this weekend and might be ready for a rehab assignment early next week.

UP NEXT

Marlins All-Star Jose Fernandez (11-4, 2.53) is scheduled to start Saturday against Jacob deGrom (6-4, 2.38), who pitched a one-hit shutout against the Phillies in his most recent outing.

"If you're a baseball fan and you love the game, Saturday night's game is a game you'd want to come and see," Collins said.

Yankees defeat Giants 3-2

NEW YORK (AP) — San Francisco Gold Glove shortstop Brandon Crawford made three errors for the first time in his career, with his wild throw in the eighth inning helping give New York a 3-2 victory that sent the Giants to their season-worst sixth straight loss.

Masahiro Tanaka shut out San Francisco for six innings, giving up four singles. Giants ace Madison Bumgarner went seven innings, allowing two runs.

The Giants nicked Dellin Betances in the seventh, pulling within 2-1 on a walk, a double by Denard Span and a wild pitch. That ended a streak of 31 scoreless innings by Yankees relievers. A double by Giants pinch-hitter Mac Williamson off Andrew Miller (6-1) tied it in the eighth.

Chase Headley opened the eighth with a swinging bunt for a single off Josh Osich (1-2), and Mark Teixeira walked. Austin Romine followed with a grounder to Crawford, who tagged second, spun around and made a hard, high throw that glanced off first baseman Brandon Belt's glove. Headley kept running and beat Belt's throw home. Aroldis Chapman closed for his 20th save.

Sabathia loses on his birthday as Yankees fall to Orioles 4-1

NEW YORK (AP) - Chris Tillman tied for the major league lead with his 14th victory, pitching four-hit ball for seven innings and helping depleted Baltimore avert a four-game sweep at Yankee Stadium.

The Orioles had lost four straight overall, costing them their lead in the AL East.

Baltimore slugger Chris Davis, shortstop Manny Machado and manager Buck Showalter returned from a stomach bug that’s hit the clubhouse. But Orioles center fielder Adam Jones didn’t play because of back spasms, catcher Matt Wieters missed his third consecutive game after being hit by a pitch in the foot and rookie outfielder Joey Rickard sat out with an injured thumb.

Tillman (14-2) matched White Sox ace Chris Sale for the most victories in the majors. Tillman gave up three hits and two walks to the first eight batters, capped by Starlin Castro’s RBI single. The tall right-hander then set down 16 of his final 17 hitters.

Brad Brach pitched the eighth and Zach Britton closed for his 30th save in as many chances.

CC Sabathia (5-8) lost on his 36th birthday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jacob deGrom was dominant after getting extra rest this week.

DeGrom tossed a one-hitter, Curtis Granderson and Asdrubal Cabrera homered and the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 on Sunday.

DeGrom (6-4) allowed only a third-inning single to pitcher Zach Eflin and retired 27 of 29 batters. The lanky right-hander struck out seven, walked one and went the distance for the first time in 68 career starts. He hadn't pitched since July 6 because of the All-Star break.

"You go every five days, that's a lot of throwing," he said. "Some time off, resetting helped."

DeGrom became the first Mets pitcher to toss a one-hitter since R.A. Dickey against the Orioles on June 18, 2012.

"He's gotten a little stronger," manager Terry Collins said of deGrom. "You saw better command and his sinker was his best all year. In his last four starts, his velocity has started to creep up."

DeGrom retired the first eight batters before Eflin singled up the middle.

"I knew who got the hit off me," deGrom said with a smile. "After that, you want the shutout. I went out there every inning like it was the first inning. It was a lot of fun."

Eflin (2-3) allowed five hits and three runs in six innings.

"I didn't have my best have my best stuff today, but I was able to battle and limit the damage," Eflin said.

Granderson drove his 16th homer way out to right-center for a 2-0 lead in the third. Cabrera's two-run shot off Andrew Bailey in the eighth was his 13th homer and gave the Mets a 5-0 lead.

Juan Lagares gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the second when he lined a triple to right. DeGrom helped himself with a two-out single in the fifth — only his second hit in 27 at-bats this season. Jose Reyes followed with an RBI double to left-center to make it 3-0.

DeGrom continued his mastery in day games. He is 15-3 with a 1.63 ERA without the bright lights and 14-15 with a 3.19 ERA at night.

"I was hoping I'd have one like this where everything is working," he said.

ROSTER MOVE

The Mets called up OF Michael Conforto and optioned OF Brandon Nimmo to Triple-A Las Vegas. Conforto was demoted on June 25 after hitting .148 after May 1. He found his groove in the minors, batting .344 with nine extra-base hits and 15 RBIs. Nimmo hit .235 with one homer and four RBIs in 16 games.

"I know I have a lot to work on and I can do that in Triple-A," Nimmo said. "I know I can play here. (Being up) gave me confidence I can do it."
